Pressing on a half moon board

The first tailors I apprenticed under aquired this half moon press board from an old retiring tailor in the early 1930s. It is used to shape the rounds of the coat.

The wooden " clapper " ,in this instance , is used to pull heat and moisture from the seam, after it is pressed, so the seam does not puff open from left over humidity in the cloth.
